About us
For many years, the Interessengemeinschaft Alpenpässe (“Alpine Passes Interest Group” – IAP) has been committed to promoting the Alpine passes and their regions from a tourism, economic and political perspective. Organised as an association, the IAP aims to ensure that the Alpine passes remain open and fit for traffic for as long as possible and to preserve and promote jobs and value creation in the regions. The IAP is also committed to improving the accessibility of pass crossings and provides the general public with up-to-date information on the status of pass roads. Through joint marketing campaigns and the promotion of cooperations and partnerships between tourism service providers, the aim is to improve the experience and recreational area in the long term.
The four priorities of the IAP
- 1. Lobbying for developing the mountain passes
The Alpine passes are available to all road users and should not be closed for several hours or days to individual interest groups. The central Alpine passes in particular must be open and fit for traffic. The IAP calls for the road infrastructure on the Alpine passes to be developed for non-motorised traffic (e.g. cyclists).
- 2. Information and communication
The website www.alpen-paesse.ch is the number one source of information for the most up-to-date and comprehensive information on Alpine pass roads in Switzerland. For many years, the IAP website has had more than one million visitors (numbers are increasing). IAP aims to maintain this leading position through continuous development and to strengthen it further through cooperations.
- 3. Network/coordinated opening of passes at an early stage
The important relationships with the cantons and the offices responsible for roads is fundamental to keeping the IAP communication platform up to date and to aim for the early and coordinated opening of passes. The maintenance of this network will be further strengthened with events and information events. Personal and respectful interaction is particularly important.
- 4. Active collaboration with our members
The IAP consistently focuses on the needs of its members and the service providers of Alpine passes. Our members form the basis of the association – their opinion is central to our work. The IAP is a reliable partner for joint projects, interventions and the necessary political lobbying.
