History

The Ibergeregg pass is of local imprtance and legend has it that the people of Schwyz were able to protect their border rights because they had a giant among their ranks. A trading route has existed from the main village of Schwyz to Iberg/Einsiedeln since the middle ages. The first road was built in 1873 and a bus route between Schwyz and Oberiberg since 1947. Travel was only possible in summer until the early 70’s, when the pass was able to be kept open in winter as well.

An inn was built at the top of the pass in 1932 and the introduction of ski lifts in 1947 and 1953 established Ibergeregg as a winter sports area. The lifts still run today under the name «AG Sportbahnen im Mythengebiet».

Ibergeregg is known far and wide as a popular summer destination for hiking.
