History
The Nufenen Pass connects the Ticino to the Rhone Valley. This pass was mainly used for the sale of cattle and horses and was later used to transport goods (such as cheese) for sale on the Gotthard trading route and importing salt into the Goms area in the 18th century. The Nufenen Pass was no competition to the Gries Pass which directly accessed the Brünig Grimsel trading route into the Piemont Lombardy area and there was no road going over the pass, which may have made the Nufenen more useful for trading. The huge danger of avalanches in winter was most probably the reason for the limitations the main town of Bedretto was almost completely wiped out by an avalanche in 1863.
The imposing avalanche protective wedges built in front of all of the villages in the Bedretto Valley still fulfil an important function today. The construction of the hydro dam below the Gries Glacier brought with it the construction of a road which was continued up to the top of the pass for touristic purposes. Passage into the Bedreto Valley was completed in 1969. The panorama from the top makes a trip up to the top very worthwhile to say nothing of the beautiful display of flowers in early summer.

Urigen - Urnerboden
According to information from the Uri Department of Public Works, the aim is to open the Klausen Pass in mid-May.
Notice regarding roadworks: Road resurfacing works will be carried out between Urnerboden and the cantonal border (the ‘Argseeli’ area) from 20 April 2026 to 12 June 2026. Traffic disruption is possible. Traffic will be regulated via traffic lights on a single lane.

From the opening of the pass in 2026 until its closure in 2026, single-decker, 2.55 m wide, two-axle and max. 18-ton touring cars (trailer ban) may travel on the Klausen Pass from Monday to Friday with a special permit. Monday, Wednesday and Friday from Unterschächen to Linthal. Tuesday and Thursday from Linthal to Unterschächen. Timing must be coordinated with Postbus routes.

Muotathal - Glarus
The road (Rhodannenberg – Vorauen) is once again open to traffic as normal.
The Pragel Pass road between the Pragel-Bödmeren Alpine cheese dairy on the Schwyz side and Gampel on the Glarus side is now closed for the winter.
